FIX: Error messages in Microsoft Expression Blend: "The Clipboard text could not be pasted" and "The following event handler will be copied to the clipboard"

SYMPTOMS

Symptom 1

Consider the following scenario. In Microsoft Expression Blend, you copy an <Image> element, or you copy an element that contains an <Image> element. Then, you paste the <Image> element, or you paste the element that contains the <Image> element. In this scenario, you may receive the following error message:

The Clipboard text could not be pasted. An XML document must contain a root level element.

If you view the Microsoft Expression Blend project in the XAML view, the Source attribute of the <Image> element is set to an alphanumeric identifier. For example, the Source attribute of the <Image> element may appear as follows:

You expect the Source attribute of the <Image> element to be set to the name of the image file.

Symptom 2

Consider the following scenario. You install Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition on a computer. In Microsoft Expression Blend, you add an event handler, and then you set the event handler to use Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition. In this scenario, Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition does not start. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

The following event handler will be copied to the clipboard […]

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click Regional and Language Options.
Click the Regional Options tab, and then click Customize.

Note If you use Windows Vista, click the Formats tab, and then click Customize this format.
In the Decimal symbol box, type a period (.).

Note Make sure that the character that appears in the Digit grouping symbol box is not a period.
Click OK two times.
