CAUSE

This problem occurs because Exchange 2007 cannot delete the folder hierarchy of the mailbox in the source server during the move mailbox operation. The mailbox is moved successfully from the source server to the destination server. However, the move mailbox operation cannot delete the mailbox at the source server after the mailbox is moved. Therefore, the partially deleted mailbox has the same GUID as the active mailbox that causes the Exchange Management Console to crash.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install Update Rollup 5 for Exchange 2007. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
941421 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941421/) Description of Update Rollup 5 for Exchange Server 2007
After you install Update Rollup 5 for Exchange Server 2007, the following event ID 10002 message may be logged during the move mailbox operation:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeIS Mailbox Store
Event Category: General
Event ID: 10002
Description:
Failed to delete mailbox with error %1.

Event ID 10002 identifies the partially deleted mailbox that cannot be removed from the source server. As soon as you determine the partially deleted mailbox, remove the mailbox manually. To do this, use one of the following methods:
Move the mailbox back to the source server.

Note The move mailbox operation may fail. However, the disconnected mailbox will be removed during the move mailbox operation.
Set the deleted mailbox retention period to zero (0).

For more information about how to configure the deleted mailbox retention period in Exchange 2007, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
