Symptoms

When you try to restore a backup or try to burn a backup to a CD-RW or to a DVD-RW in Microsoft Office Accounting Professional or in Microsoft Office Accounting Express, you receive one of the following error messages.

Error message 1

Handle does not support synchronous operating, the parameters to the file screen constructor may need to be changed to indicate the handle was opened asynchronously (That is, it was opened explicitly for overlapped IO)

Error message 2

The media family on device C is incorrectly formed. SQL server cannot process this media family. RESTORE HEADERONLY is terminating abnormally.

Error message 3

Access is Denied.

Cause

This problem occurs for one of the following reasons:

  • If you receive Error message 1, you do not have a Microsoft SQL Server product installed on the computer. See Method 1 or Method 2 in the "Resolution" section.

  • If you receive Error message 2, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is installed on the computer. You are trying to restore the backup by using a backup file on a portable storage device. However, the portable storage device is incompatible with the SQL Server 2005 restore process. See Method 3 in the "Resolution" section.

  • If you receive Error message 3, you may be trying to burn the backup to a rewriteable CD (CD-RW) or a rewriteable DVD (DVD-RW). The backup that is directly written onto the media conflicts with the burning process. See Method 4 in the "Resolution" section.
