Certificate mapping fails on a Windows XP Service Pack 2-based computer that is running the Windows Server 2003 Administration Tools Pack

On a Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computer that is running the Windows Server 2003 Administration Tools Pack, you map a certificate to the corresponding Active Directory directory service user account in the domain. However, certificate mapping fails. The corresponding user account may receive authentication errors when the user tries to use the certificate to obtain authentication in applications that use Active Directory certificate mapping.
For example, when a certificate is mapped to an Active Directory user account from a Windows XP-based computer, you cannot use this certificate to log on to the domain through Microsoft Internet Security and Accleration (ISA) Server.
This problem occurs because the string that is used for the altSecurityIdentities property in Active Directory is inconsistent when a certificate is mapped to a user account from a Windows XP SP2-based client computer.
Hotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
