How do I determine what type of session I'm using (Live Meeting vs. Office Communications Server)?

This article describes how to determine whether you are connected to a Live Meeting session or to a Web conference that is hosted by a server that is running Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007. Additionally, this article describes how to determine the Microsoft Live Meeting 2007 client that you are using.

How to determine whether you are connected to a Live Meeting session or to a Web conference that is hosted by a server that is running Communications Server 2007

Method 1

In the email invitation that you receive for the meeting, examine the URL of the Join the meeting link that you click to join the meeting. If the URL begins with https://, you are connected to a Live Meeting session. If the URL begins with meet:sip:, you are connected to a server that is running Communications Server 2007.

Method 2

1. In the Live Meeting client, click Meeting after you join the meeting.
2. View the text in the Location box. If the text begins with https://, you are connected to a Live Meeting session. If the text begins with meet:sip:, you are connected to a server that is running Communications Server 2007.

Method 3

In the email invitation that you receive for the meeting, examine the sentence where it states who invited you to join a meeting. It would state if the Organizer invited you to attend or present on a Microsoft Office Live Meeting service or on a Microsoft Office Communications Server.

An overview of the available Live Meeting 2007 clients

The following Live Meeting 2007 clients are available:

• The Windows-based client
• The Web-based client

The Windows-based client is an application that you install on a computer.

The Web-based client is a Java program. Additionally, the Web-based client runs in a Web browser. A user can use the Web-based client if the user cannot use the Windows-based client. For example, a user can use the Web-based client if the user is using one of the following operating systems:

• Windows 98
• Sun Solaris
• Apple Macintosh

The Windows-based client does not run on these operating systems. However, the Web-based client does run on these operating systems.

You can use the Windows-based client to connect to a Live Meeting session or to a Web conference that is hosted by a server that is running Communications Server 2007.

You can use the Web-based client to connect only to a Live Meeting session.

How to determine the Live Meeting 2007 client that you are using

When you run the Windows-based client, the title bar of the Windows-based client contains Microsoft Office Live Meeting. Additionally, the Windows-based client contains an arrow in the title bar. When you click the arrow, the following commands are displayed:

• Options
• Exit
• Exit and End Meeting
• About Microsoft Office Live Meeting

When you run the Web-based client, the title bar of the Web browser includes the name of the Web browser. For example, if you use Windows Internet Explorer 7, the title bar includes Windows Internet Explorer.
