INTRODUCTION

This step-by-step article describes how to install Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange Server on a Windows Server 2003 Network Load Balancing (NLB) cluster.

MORE INFORMATION

To install Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange Server on a Windows Server 2003 Network Load Balancing (NLB) cluster, follow these steps. Repeat this procedure on every server that is in the NLB cluster.

Note To complete these steps, you must have either a Forefront Security for Exchange Server CD image or a self-extracting package from the Microsoft Volume Licensing Download Center. For more information about the Volume Licensing Download Center, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
https://eopen.microsoft.com/EN/Home.ASP
  1. Click Start, click Run, click Browse, locate the Forefront Security for Exchange Server CD image or the self-extracting package from the Volume Licensing Download Center, click Setup.exe, click Open, and then click OK.
  2. If you are prompted to confirm that you want to run this file, click Run.
  3. On the Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange Server page, click Next.
  4. On the License Agreement page, read the license agreement, and then click Yes.
  5. On the Customer Information page, type your user name in the User Name box, type the company name in the Company Name box, and then click Next.
  6. On the Installation Location page, click Local Installation, and then click Next.
  7. On the Installation Type page, click Full Installation, and then click Next.
  8. On the Quarantine Security Settings page, click Secure Mode or Compatibility Mode.

    Notes
    • By default, Secure Mode is selected. When the value is set to Secure Mode, all messages and attachments that are delivered from Quarantine are rescanned for viruses and for filter matches.
    • When the value is set to Compatibility Mode, all messages and attachments that are delivered from Quarantine are not scanned for filter matches. However, messages and attachments are always scanned for viruses. Forefront Security for Exchange Server identifies these messages by including special tag text in the subject line of all messages that are delivered from Quarantine.
  9. On the Engines page, the Microsoft Anti-malware Engine and four other engines are randomly selected. If you do not approve of the random selection of engines, click to select the check boxes of the engines you want to use. Then, click to clear the check boxes of the engines that you do not want to use. You can select a maximum of five engines. This includes the Microsoft Anti-malware Engine.
  10. If you install Forefront Security for Exchange Server on an edge server, you may be prompted to decide whether you want Forefront Security for Exchange Server to enable anti-spam updates. You are prompted if you have never changed the anti-spam updates setting on the Exchange Management Console. If you do not enable anti-spam updates during the Forefront Security for Exchange Server installation, you can still enable anti-spam updates. To do this, click Enable Anti-spam Updates in the Action section of the Exchange Management Console.

Note If you enable anti-spam updates during the installation, and then you uninstall Forefront Security for Exchange Server, anti-spam updates are disabled.
  11. On the Engine Updates Required page, click Next.
  12. By default, the folder that is selected on the Choose Destination Location page is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Forefront Security\Exchange Server. If you want to change the folder, click Browse, locate the folder that you want to use, click OK, and then click Next.
  13. On the Select Program Folder page, click the program folder that you want to use. By default, the Microsoft Forefront Security for Exchange Server folder is selected.
  14. On the Start Copying Files page, verify that the settings and paths are correct in the Current Settings list. If you must correct a setting or path, click Back to go back to the applicable page and make the correction. If the settings and paths are correct, click Next.
  15. On the Start MSExchange Transport Service page, click Next to restart the Exchange services automatically. Click Skip if you do not want to restart the Exchange services now. To use Forefront Security for Exchange Server, you must restart the Exchange service.
  16. Click Next.
  17. On the InstallShield Wizard Complete page, click to select the View README file check box, and then click Finish.
Note During the installation, shared Microsoft files are updated on your computer. If you are prompted to restart your computer, you do not have to do that immediately. However, you may have to restart the computer before certain Forefront Security for Exchange Server features work correctly.
