SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You use one of the following Microsoft BizTalk Adapters to send messages:
  • Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for Oracle Database
  • Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for PeopleSoft Enterprise
  • Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for Siebel eBusiness Applications
You also configure two send ports that use different BizTalk host instances on a computer that is running Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006.

In this scenario, the adapter works only intermittently when you use the adapter to send messages. Additionally, the following error messages are logged in the Application log:
Error message 1
Runtime Error: Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted.
Error message 2
Duplicate system defintion.
Note In this error message, "defintion" is a misspelling of "definition."

CAUSE

This problem occurs because each host instance has a separate RuntimeAgent.exe process. At startup, each RuntimeAgent.exe process tries to connect to the back-end system. Each RuntimeAgent.exe process may try to access the same TCP/IP port that another RuntimeAgent.exe process is already accessing.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

How to use this hotfix

After you apply this hotfix, you must manually register the Microsoft.BizTalk.Adapters.BizUtil.dll file in the global assembly cache. To do this, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: If you have Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 installed

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, point to Visual Studio Tools, and then click Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt.
  2. At the Visual Studio command prompt, locate the following folder:
    %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Microsoft BizTalk Adapters for Enterprise Applications\Bin
  3. At the Visual Studio command prompt, run the following command:
    gacutil /i Microsoft.BizTalk.Adapters.BizUtil.dll

Method 2: If you do not have Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 installed

  1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd , and then click OK.
  2. At the command prompt, locate the following folder:
    %WINDIR%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322
  3. At the command prompt, run the following command:
    gacutil /i "<Drive>:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft BizTalk Adapters for Enterprise Applications\Bin\ Microsoft.BizTalk.Adapters.BizUtil.dll"
    Note These BizTalk adapters use the .NET Framework 1.1.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
