This software update includes the following changes:
This software update changes the behavior of the DsGetDcName function.
The
DsGetDcName function queries the domain information by using information from the Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) database. If the query fails, the standard Domain Name System-based (DNS-based) lookup is used. The DNS-based lookup adds the domain name to the lookup. If the DNS-based lookup fails, the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) 119 option that contains additional domain names is queried.
This software update adds an input/output control (IOCTL) mechanism that queries the NetBIOS module name from the Redir module or from the NetBIOS module. Additionally, this software update adds this IOCTL mechanism to the domain-discovery API.
This software update adds a functionality that lets you specify a NetBIOS preference when the name of a domain controller is resolved in a specified domain.
This update adds the UseNetbiosLast registry entry to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\DomainDiscovery
Note Before the registry entry is added, the Netbios query is implemented first. If the query fails, the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) query is implemented. After the registry entry is added and then set to a value that is not zero, the LDAP query is implemented first. If the query fails, the Netbios query is implemented.
