Description of the update for Exchange Server components in Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration 4.0

Microsoft has released an update to fix issues in the following Microsoft Exchange Server components in Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration 4.0:

• Hosted Email 2007 Namespace
• Hosted Email 2007 Web Service
• Managed Email 2007 Namespace
• Managed Email 2007 Web Service
• Exchange 2007 Provider

Issues that the update fixes

This update fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

• After you install security update 928365, provisioning requests to create, to edit, or to delete mailboxes fail. Additionally, you receive an error message that resembles the following:
  Unable to generate a temporary class (result=1). error CS0266: Cannot implicitly convert type 'Microsoft.Provisioning.Providers.Exchange2007Provider.Data.GetMailbox_ResponseResultImapMessagesRetrievalMimeFormat?' to 'Microsoft.Provisioning.Providers.Exchange2007Provider.Data.GetMailbox_ResponseResultPopMessagesRetrievalMimeFormat?'. An explicit conversion exists (are you missing a cast?)

• When you change an organization's hosted e-mail plan by using the ChangeOrganizationPlanAssignment procedure, the space for the new plan is added to the space that already exists.
  
  For example, consider an organization that has a 100-MB hosted e-mail plan. You use the ChangeOrganizationPlanAssignment procedure to change the hosted e-mail plan to 200 MB. After you run the procedure, the organization has 300 MB of space instead of the expected 200 MB of space.
• If you configure more than one public folder server in a Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration 4.0 environment, public-folder-related provisioning requests fail. Additionally, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

• When an organization administrator tries to delete an SMTP domain by using the Hosted Email 2007::DeleteSMTPDomain procedure, the administrator receives a 0x80070057 error message that resembles the following:
  You do not have permission to perform this action. (or object path may be mal-formed.)

Update information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

How to apply the update

To apply this update, follow these steps:

1. Uninstall old components, namespaces, providers, and Web services. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. Start the MPS Deployment Tool.
   2. Expand Hosted Exchange, and then expand Exchange Provisioning.
   3. Right-click Exchange 2007 Hosted Email, and then click Uninstall.
   4. Right-click Exchange 2007 Managed Email, and then click Uninstall.
   5. Right-click Exchange 2007 Provider, and then click Uninstall.
   6. Expand MPS Web Service, and then expand Hosted Email 2007 Web Service.
   7. Right-click each server under Hosted Email 2007 Web Service, and then click Uninstall.
   8. Expand Managed Email 2007 Web Service.
   9. Right-click each server under Managed Email 2007 Web Service, and then click Uninstall.
   10. Click Start Deployment.
2. Copy the new .msi files. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. Open the MSIShare folder.
      
      Note To open the MSIShare folder, click File in the MPS Deployment Tool, and then click File Locations to find the path of the installer files.
   2. Copy the following files from the update to the MSIShare folder:
      • HostedEmail2007NS.msi
      • HostedEmail2007WS.msi
      • ManagedEmail2007NS.msi
      • ManagedEmail2007WS.msi
      • Exchange2007Provider.msi
3. Install new namespaces, providers, and Web services. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. In the MPS Deployment Tool, right-click Hosted Exchange, and then click Install all in this group.
   2. Right-click MPS Web Service, and then click Install all in this group.
   3. Click Start Deployment.
4. Initialize namespaces. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. In the MPS Deployment Tool, expand Hosted Exchange, and then expand Exchange Provisioning Configuration.
   2. Right-click Initialize Hosted Email 2007, click Execute, and then click Initialize Hosted Email 2007.
   3. Right-click Initialize Managed Email 2007, click Execute, and then click Initialize Managed Email 2007.
   4. Click Start Deployment.
5. Shut down the Provisioning Engine. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. On the MPS Engine servers, start Component Services.
   2. Expand Component Services, expand Computers, and then expand My Computer.
   3. Click COM+ Applications.
   4. Right-click Provisioning Engine, and then click Shut Down.

Prerequisites

Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration 4.0 must be installed before you apply this update.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this update.

Update replacement information

This update does not replace a previously released update.
