Issues that are fixed in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 by Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 1

Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) provides the latest updates to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. Additionally, Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP1 contains improvements to security, to stability, and to performance. Some fixes that are included in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP1 were previously released in separate updates. Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP1 combines the previously released fixes into one update.

Issues that the service pack fixes

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP1 fixes the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 issues that are described in the following articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: Note Hotfix 941422 contains the following issues that are not fixed by this service pack.

• When you use Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 or Windows Internet Explorer 7 as the RSS client to subscribe to the RSS feed on a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 site, new items do not appear when expected. Instead, the new items appear several hours later.
• When you query for the content that exists after the first two slides in a Microsoft Office PowerPoint presentation on a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 site, incorrect results are returned. This problem occurs if the slides after the first two slides in the presentation include multiple-language contents.

This service pack fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

• The advanced search Web Part ignores the custom scope that you specify when you perform an advanced search operation
  
  You configure an advanced search Web Part to use a custom scope. However, when you perform the advanced search operation, the result that you obtain is not limited to the custom scope.
• The object model that you can use to rename a scalable hosted site is public in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP1
  
  The object model that contains the function that you can use to rename a scalable hosted site is public in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP1. The function that you can use to rename a scalable hosted site is the SPSite.Rename(Uri newUri) function. Originally, this function was internal.
• You cannot type some Polish letters in the Rich Text Editor
  
  Polish has letters in addition to the 26 letters that are used in English. However, you cannot type some of these additional letters in the Rich Text Editor. For example, this issue occurs when you try to type some Polish letters in a blog or in a custom list that uses the Rich Text Editor. After you apply the service pack, run the STSADM utility to enable this fix. Use the following command:
  stsadm.exe -o setproperty -url http://portal -pn "richtexteditorshortcutenabled" -pv "no"
  Note portal is your portal site location.
• When you upgrade to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 by using the "-inplace b2b" parameter, you may encounter various problems
  
  When you perform an in-place build-to-build upgrade to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, you may encounter one or more of the following problems:
  • The upgrade process fails.
  • The Central Administration site and the Stsadm.exe tool do not work correctly.
  • The Setup program cannot upgrade the configuration database.
• You receive an "HTTP 404" error message when you create a link to a document in a subfolder
  
  You create a subfolder in a document library. When you create a link to a document in the subfolder, you receive an "HTTP 404" error message.
• Error message when you import many documents into a document library if the documents have multiple versions: "FatalError: Member 'Versions' was not found"
  
  Consider the following scenario. You have many documents that have versions. Some documents have multiple versions. In this scenario, you receive the following error message when you import these documents into a document library:
  FatalError: Member 'Versions' was not found.
  This problem is likely to occur when you import more than 200 documents.
• Error message when you perform an in-place upgrade to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0: "An exception of type System.ServiceProcess.TimeoutException was thrown"
  
  When you perform an in-place upgrade from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, the upgrade process fails at random points. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
  An exception of type System.ServiceProcess.TimeoutException was thrown. Additional exception information: Time out has expired and the operation has not been completed.
• Error message when you upgrade to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0: "Violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'AllUserData_Url'"
  
  Consider the following scenario. You have two discussion boards in Windows SharePoint Services 2.0. The name of one discussion board is a part of the name of the other discussion board. You upgrade to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. In this scenario, the upgrade process fails. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
  Violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'AllUserData_Url'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.AllUserData'
• Error message when you upgrade to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0: "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding"
  
  When you upgrade from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, you may receive the following error message:
  Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
  This problem is likely to occur if the following conditions are true:
  • You perform a gradual upgrade.
  • The content database is larger than 300 gigabytes (GB).
• Error message when you try to edit the permissions of a document library if you set the locale of the site that contains the document library to Turkish: "Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object"
  
  You set the locale of a site to Turkish. When you try to edit the permissions of a document library in the site, you receive the following error message:
  Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.
• After you upgrade a Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 farm to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, you cannot access the sites in a site collection
  
  Consider the following scenario. You create a site collection in a Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 farm. Additionally, you associate the site collection with a host header. Then, you upgrade to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. In this scenario, you cannot access the sites in the site collection.
• Error message when you perform an in-place upgrade to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0: "You cannot use Local System or Local Service as the application pool identity for Windows SharePoint Services"
  
  Consider the following scenario. In Windows SharePoint Services 2.0, you set the application pool identity to Local System. Then, you perform an in-place upgrade to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. In this scenario, you receive the following error message in the Configuration Wizard:
  You cannot use Local System or Local Service as the application pool identity for Windows SharePoint Services.
• Error message when an RSS client sends an RSS request that contains an ETag field that is older than 15 days: "The changeToken refers to a time before the start of the current change log"
  
  Consider the following scenario. You request an RSS Feed. The RSS request contains an ETag field that is older than 15 days. In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
  The changeToken refers to a time before the start of the current change log.
• Error message when you create a list from a list template that has the e-mail notification option enabled: "Error: Cannot complete this action"
  
  You have a list template that has the e-mail notification option enabled. When you create a list from the list template, you receive the following error message:
  Error: Cannot complete this action
  However, the list is created successfully.
• Error message when you click "Manage Permissions" for a folder: "Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object"
  
  Consider the following scenario. In a document library, you create folders on different levels. You click Manage Permissions for a folder. The folder is two or more levels down from another folder. In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
  Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.
• After you update the server URL of a site collection by migrating the site collection or by using another method, the alerts on the site no longer work
  
  You update the server URL of a site collection. For example, you do this by migrating the site collection from a server to another server. After you update the server URL, the alerts on the site no longer work.
• Error message when you run the PSConfig.exe tool after you apply a hotfix for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0: "Access to module dbo.proc_MSS_GetConfigurationProperty is blocked because the signature is not valid"
  
  You apply a hotfix for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. When you run the PSConfig.exe tool, you receive the following error message:
  System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Access to module dbo.proc_MSS_GetConfigurationProperty is blocked because the signature is not valid.
• When you update a document in a document library, the version number of the document may not increase
  
  Consider the following scenario. You enable the Document Version History feature of a document library. Then, you update a document in the document library. In this scenario, the version number of the document may not increase when you save the document.
• You cannot upload a document to a subfolder in a document library if you do not have the Update permission on the parent folder
  
  Consider the following scenario. You have the Update permission on a subfolder in a document library. You do not have the Update permission on the parent folder. In this scenario, you cannot upload a document to the subfolder.
• When you save a site as a template, the setting for the site columns is not saved
  
  Consider the following scenario. A site content type contains some site columns. The site columns are set to Required. You save a site that uses this content type as a template. In this scenario, the setting for the site columns is not saved. When you create a new site by using the template, the site columns are set to Optional.
• You can still perform a drag-and-drop operation on a file in the Explorer view of a document library even if you set the Cancel property to true in the custom ItemDeleting event
  
  Consider the following scenario. You create a custom ItemDeleting event. Additionally, you set the Cancel property to true. In this scenario, you can still perform a drag-and-drop operation on a file in the Explorer view of a document library that uses the custom ItemDeleting event. However, you expect that you will be unable to perform the drag-and-drop operation.
• On a multiprocessor computer, deadlocks may occur when several users perform operations on list items at the same time
  
  On a multiprocessor computer, several users perform operations on list items at the same time. In this situation, deadlocks may occur.
• After you update the order of the content types, a new document uses the template of the incorrect content type
  
  Consider the following scenario. In a document library, you create a new content type. In the document library settings, you update the order of the content types in such a way that the new content type comes before the default content type. In this scenario, a new document uses the template of the default content type when you create the new document. However, you expect the new document to use the template of the new content type.
• The error message in the PSConfig.exe tool does not specify the location of the preupgrade scan tool
  
  You try to perform an in-place upgrade from Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. Then, the PSConfig.exe tool displays an error message that states that you must run the preupgrade scan tool. However, the error message does not specify the location of the preupgrade scan tool.
• When you open a view of a list that groups items by the column of the "Date and Time" data type, some items may not be displayed in the correct group
  
  You create a view of a list that groups items by the column of the Date and Time data type. When you open the view, some items may not be displayed in the correct group.
• You cannot copy a form that contains more than 15 fields of the Boolean data type from a form library to another form library
  
  You have a Microsoft Office InfoPath form that contains more than 15 fields of the Boolean data type. When you copy this form from a form library to another form library, the copy operation fails.
• Error message when you try to add a KPI Details Web Part to a Web page in the French version of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007: "Impossible to add selected component"
  
  Consider the following scenario. A server is running the French version of SharePoint Server 2007. You try to add a KPI Details Web Part to a Web page. In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
  Impossible to add selected component. KPI Details - file is invalid.
• Calendar items that have a date that is after the fifth day of the month are not displayed in the Month view
  
  Consider the following scenario. The time zone of a site is a positive offset to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). In a calendar list, you click the first day of a month. Then, you switch to the Month view. In this scenario, calendar items that have a date that is after the fifth day of the month are not displayed.
• Error message when you use the Stsadm.exe tool to import a site: "FatalError: This operation can only be performed on a file"
  
  Consider the following scenario. You use the Stsadm.exe tool to import a site by using the -includeusersecurity switch. The site contains a discussion topic. The title of the discussion topic ends in the format of a file name extension. In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
  FatalError: This operation can only be performed on a file.
  For example, you receive this error message if the title of the discussion topic is as follows:
  http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/default.aspx
• Error message when you import or export a Web application that contains a document library: "The file '<PageURL>' is not checked out"
  
  Consider the following scenario. You have a Web application that contains a document library. The document library has lookup columns. You import the Web application, or you export the Web application. In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
  The file '<PageURL>' is not checked out. You must first check out this document before making changes.
• If a Web Part contains special characters, the tooltip for the Web Part menu incorrectly displays the special characters
  
  If a Web Part contains special characters in the title, the tooltip for the Web Part menu incorrectly displays the special characters. For example, this issue occurs if a Web Part contains the ampersand (&) character.
• You cannot open a view of a list if the list contains a lookup column that has the "Allow multiple values" option enabled and if the list contains many security settings
  
  Consider the following scenario. You have a custom list that contains a lookup column. You enable the Allow multiple values option for the lookup column. Additionally, the list contains many security settings. For example, the list contains 1,000 item-based security settings. In this scenario, you cannot open a view of the list.
• Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and SharePoint Server 2007 do not contain the time zone changes for New Zealand
  
  Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and SharePoint Server 2007 contain the old time zone settings for New Zealand. The new time zone settings for New Zealand include an additional three weeks of daylight saving time. The additional daylight saving time starts on September 30, 2007.
• When you reply to a discussion in the Subject view of a discussion board, you receive an "HTTP 400" error message
  
  Consider the following scenario. The Subject view of a discussion board contains the Reply column. You click Reply in the Subject view. In this scenario, you receive an "HTTP 400" error message.
• You cannot reply to a discussion on a discussion board if you are an anonymous user
  
  If you are an anonymous user, you cannot reply to a discussion on a discussion board.
• You cannot upload an administrator-approved form template to a server that is running the Turkish version of SharePoint Server 2007
  
  A server is running the Turkish version of SharePoint Server 2007. When you try to upload an administrator-approved form template to the server, the upload process fails.
• Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 does not index the file or the folder that you copy by using the Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) Web folder
  
  You copy a file or a folder by using the WebDAV Web folder. When you perform an incremental update of a content index, Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 does not index the file or the folder that you copy.
• After you install a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 update on the Web Front End (WFE) servers in a SharePoint Server 2007 farm, the version of the Windows SharePoint Services database that is running on the back-end server is not updated
  
  Consider the following scenario. You have multiple WFE servers in a SharePoint Server 2007 farm. You have a back-end server that hosts a Windows SharePoint Services database. You install a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 update on the WFE servers. In this scenario, the "Servers in Farm" page on the SharePoint Administration site still displays 12.0.0.4518 for the version of the Windows SharePoint Services database. However, you expect the version number to match the version number of the update that you installed.
