This article describes how to move dashboard elements
from Microsoft Office PerformancePoint Monitoring Server 2007 (Monitoring Server) on a
source server to Monitoring Server on a
destination server.
This article also includes instructions about how to update the credentials of the dashboard
elements to reflect new owners, new users, and new roles.
In some cases, you have to move dashboard elements from
Monitoring Server on one server to Monitoring Server on
another server. For example, you move dashboard elements from Monitoring Server
on the development server to Monitoring Server on the test server. Or, you move
dashboard elements from Monitoring Server on the test server to Monitoring Server on the production server.
Dashboard elements can be grouped into the following
categories:
Data source
Key performance indicator (KPI)
Indicator
Report
Scorecard
Dashboard
To move dashboard elements from Monitoring Server on the source
server to Monitoring Server on the destination server, follow these steps:
On the source server, save the dashboard elements that you
want to move.
Note You save the dashboard elements into a Workspace file that has a .bswx extension.
You only save the dashboard elements that you want to move to Monitoring Server
on the destination server. Notice that if you save a dashboard element, other
dashboard elements that are related to the dashboard element are also saved.
For example, you save a dashboard. Then all the related KPIs, scorecards,
reports, data sources, and indicators are also saved.
To save the dashboard
elements that you want to move, follow these steps:
On the source server, open Dashboard
Designer.
Click the
Server tab, and then click the Home tab.
In the Actions group, click
Refresh.
In Workspace Browser, click a
dashboard element category.
On the Server tab, double-click the
dashboard elements that you want to move.
Note After you double-click a dashboard element, the dashboard element
appears in Workspace Browser under the corresponding
dashboard element category.
Repeat steps 1d through 1e to select the dashboard
elements for other dashboard element categories.
Click the Microsoft Office button, and then click
Save As.
Type a name
in the File name box, specify a location that you want to save
the workspace file, and then click Save.
Copy the .bswx file that you saved in step 1h to the
destination server.
On the destination server, open the .bswx file in Dashboard
Designer.
Update the connection information on the destination
server.
In Dashboard Designer, click the Microsoft Office
button, click Options, and then click the
Server tab.
In the Server URL box, specify the URL
of Monitoring Server on the destination server. For example, you type the
following URL:
In the Server name box, specify the
URL of Monitoring Server on the destination server.
Click Connect to make sure that the
connection to Monitoring Server is configured correctly.
Click OK to close the
Options dialog box.
Update the data sources.
In Workspace Browser, expand
Data Sources, click a data source, and then click the Editor tab.
Under Connection Settings, update the
connection settings to connect to Monitoring Server on the destination
server.
Note You may also have to update the corresponding dashboard elements
to reflect the correct data from the data source on the destination
server.
Click Test Connection to make sure
that the data source is configured correctly.
Update the credential information about the data
source. To do this, use Method 1 in the "How to update the credential
information for dashboard elements" section.
Note In Workspace Browser, the dashboard element
category for data sources is Data Source.
Repeat steps 5a through 5d to update other data
sources.
Update the credentials
for each dashboard element. To update the
credentials for each
dashboard
element,
use the
appropriate method in the "How to update the
credential information for dashboard elements" section.
Note In Workspace Browser,
you can select the corresponding
dashboard element category to view the credentials.
Publish the dashboards to Monitoring Server.
Click the Home tab.
In the Actions group, click
Publish All.
Click the Edit tab.
Click SharePoint Site in the
Deploy group to open the Deploy a Dashboard to a
SharePoint Site dialog box.
On the Select Dashboard page, click a
dashboard, and then click Next.
On the Specify Location page, type the
URL of the SharePoint site under the SharePoint URL
box.
Select the document library in the Document
library list, and then click Next.
On the Select Layout page, select a
layout in the Master page list, and then click
Finish.
Repeat steps 7e through 7h to publish other
dashboards.
How to update the credential information for dashboard elements
Depending on whether you have the same credential information on
both servers, some steps are not required. The credential information for a
dashboard element includes the owner, the users, and the corresponding
roles.
To update the credential information for dashboard elements,
use one of the following methods.
Notes
Method 1 can update the credential information for only one
dashboard element at a time.
You can use Method 1 to update the users and the
corresponding roles for dashboard elements.
Method 2 can update the credential information for multiple
dashboard elements that belong to the same category at the same time.
You cannot use Method 2 to update the users and the
corresponding roles for dashboard elements.
Method 1: Update the credentials of a dashboard element
Note If you have the same owners on both servers, step 1 in Method 1
is not necessary.
Update the owner of the dashboard element. To do this, follow these steps:
In Workspace Browser, expand the
dashboard element category to which the dashboard element belongs, and then
click the dashboard element in a specific category.
Click the Properties tab.
On the Properties tab, update the
owner in the Person Responsible box.
Under Permissions, you
can add users, delete users, or update roles based on your requirement.
Note If you have the same users and the same roles on both servers,
step 2 in
Method 1
is not necessary.
Method 2: Use the Bulk Edit feature to update the owner for multiple dashboard elements that belong to the same category
Note If you have the same owners on both servers, the following steps
are not required.
In Workspace Browser, click the dashboard
element category to which these multiple dashboard elements belong.
Click the Workspace tab.
On the Workspace tab, select these
multiple dashboard elements under the root folder.
Click the Edit tab, and then click
Bulk Edit in the Bulk Edit group.
In the Bulk Editing dialog box, update the
owner in the Person Responsible box.
