SYMPTOMS

When you visit the Microsoft Update or Microsoft Office Update Web site, you are prompted to install updates for the 2007 Microsoft Office system. This behavior occurs even though no 2007 Office system product is installed.

Typically, this behavior occurs when Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 or Microsoft Expression Web is installed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Visual Web Developer component of Visual Studio 2008 and of Expression Web reuses code that is also distributed as part of the 2007 Office system.

Some updates for the 2007 Office system update the Visual Web Developer component of Visual Studio 2008 and some components of Expression Web.

MORE INFORMATION

You should install all the updates that are detected on the Microsoft Update or Microsoft Office Update Web site. Updates to the common components of the 2007 Office system apply to both Visual Studio 2008 and Expression Web. When you use Visual Studio 2008 and Expression Web, you must install these updates for best results.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
