SYMPTOMS

On a mobile PC that is running Windows Vista, the pen pointer does not track the pen stylus. This issue occurs in a multiple-monitor configuration when the external display is set to be the primary display.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Windows Vista assumes the digitizer is using the primary display.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, configure the display configuration application to use the mobile PC display as the primary display when you use rotation or display centering. Currently, there is no support for mapping digitizers to specific displays in Windows Vista.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Start a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows Vista. Use a display resolution of 1024x768 and 32-bit color.
  2. Attach a CRT monitor to the computer.
  3. Open the display configuration application.
  4. Change the display mode to use an external display device in either clone mode or extended desktop mode, and then set the external display to be the primary display.
  5. Set the monitor rotation angle to 0 degrees and the notebook rotation angle to 180 degrees. Or, enable display centering when the local flat panel (LFP) resolution is smaller than its native resolution.
  6. Use the tablet pen device to move the pointer around on the LFP. The pen pointer does not track the pen stylus.
