The Microsoft Firewall service stops unexpectedly on a computer that is running ISA Server 2004 or ISA Server 2006Article ID: 943200 - View products that this article applies to. SYMPTOMSOn a computer that is running Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 or Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2006, the Microsoft Firewall service stops unexpectedly. This problem occurs only on multiprocessor computers, on multicore processor computers, or on hyper-threaded computers. When this problem occurs, the following event is logged in the System log: Event Type: Error Event Type: Error CAUSEThis problem occurs because of an access violation in the W3filter.dll module. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem for ISA Server 2004, apply the hotfix rollup package that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 943202.
