Only the first three levels of items can be grouped in a custom data view in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 content

SYMPTOMS

You use Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007 to create a custom data view for lists. When you create the custom data view, you can specify any number of columns in the Sort and Group dialog box.

However, when you try to group items in the custom data view in Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 content, only the first three levels of items can be grouped. At the fourth level and beyond, the group header shows the first column value as seen in the sort order. However, you cannot group items into separate groups.

RESOLUTION
