To add a computer or a device to a wireless network, use any of the following methods.

Use the Add a PC Wizard in Windows Live OneCare

If you used Windows Live OneCare to help secure a wireless network, you can automatically add a computer or device to the wireless network. To do this, follow these steps:

1. On the computer where you configured Windows Live OneCare to help secure the wireless network, start Windows Live OneCare, and then click Change Settings.
2. On the Firewall tab, click Advanced Settings.
3. On the Network connections tab, click the wireless network where you want to add the computer or device, and then click Details.
4. Click Add a PC, and then follow the steps to complete the Add a PC Wizard.

Manually add a computer to a wireless network

To manually add a computer to a wireless network, use the appropriate method for the operating system that you are using.

Windows XP

To manually add a computer that is running Windows XP to a wireless network, follow these steps:

1. On the computer that you want to add to a wireless network, click Start, click Run, type Ncpa.cpl, and then click OK.
2. Right-click the wireless connection, and then click View available wireless networks.
3. Click the name of the wireless network, and then click Connect.
4. Type and confirm the network key for the wireless router, and then click Connect.

Windows Vista

To manually add a computer that is running Windows Vista to a wireless network, follow these steps:

1. On the computer that you want to add to a wireless network, click Start

   , and then click Connect to.
2. Click the wireless network to which you want to connect, and then click Connect.
3. Type and confirm the network key for the wireless router, and then click Connect.

To determine the network name and the network key for the wireless network, use any of the following methods.

Use Windows Live OneCare

If you used the Add a PC Wizard in Windows Live OneCare to add a computer or device to a wireless network, follow these steps to verify the network name and network key for the wireless network:

1. On the computer where you configured Windows Live OneCare to help secure the wireless network, start Windows Live OneCare, and then click Change Settings.
2. On the Firewall tab, click Advanced Settings.
3. On the Network connections tab, click the wireless network where you want to add the computer or device, and then click Details.
4. Under Security Information, verify the network name and the network key.

Manually verify the network name and network key on the wireless router

If you manually added a computer or device to the wireless network, contact the computer or device manufacturer or see the manufacturer documentation for more information about how to verify the network name and the network key on the wireless router.

Note A computer or a device may be disconnected from the wireless router when you change a security setting on the router.
