After you uninstall your default mail client, Windows Live Photo Gallery attaches images to e-mail messages in the previous mail client

SYMPTOMS

After you uninstall your default mail client, you may encounter the following situation when you select an image and try to send the image in an e-mail message:
  • The Attach Dialog box is not displayed. Instead, the previous mail client is automatically opened and the image is attached to an e-mail message.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if a new default mail client is not registered after the default mail client is uninstalled.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, make sure that a mail client is installed and a default mail client is selected. To set the default mail client, follow these steps:
  • Windows Vista
    1. Click Start

      , and then click Default Programs.

      If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
    2. Click Set Your Default Programs.
    3. In the Program List, select the mail client you want to use as your default mail client.
    4. Click Set this program as default, and then click OK.
  • Windows XP
    1. Click Start, and then click Set Program Access and Defaults.
    2. In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, select the configuration that applies to your situation:
      • Microsoft Windows: Select this option if you are selecting a Microsoft mail client as your default mail client.
      • Non-Microsoft: Select this option if you are selecting a non-Microsoft mail client as your default mail client.
    3. In the drop-down window, select the e-mail program that you want to set as the default program, and then click OK.
