This article describes how to back up photos online by using Windows Live OneCare Online Photo Backup.

To back up photos online in Windows Live OneCare, you can use Windows Live OneCare Online Photo Backup. To use Windows Live OneCare Online Photo Backup, you must purchase a subscription that is separate from your Windows Live OneCare subscription. To purchase a subscription to Windows Live OneCare Online Photo Backup, visit the following Windows Live OneCare Web site:

When you purchase a Windows Live OneCare Online Photo Backup subscription, you receive 10 gigabytes (GB) of online storage space to back up your photos. Windows Live OneCare Online Photo Backup monitors your computer and automatically backs up your photos to your online storage space.

Notes
  • You cannot back up files other than photos by using this service.
  • You can continue to use the computer while Windows Live OneCare Online Photo Backup runs.
To enable Windows Live OneCare Online Photo Backup, follow these steps:
  1. Start Windows Live OneCare.
  2. Under Quick links, click Change settings.
  3. Click the Backup tab, and then click Configure backup.
  4. In the left column, click the computer for which you want to enable Windows Live OneCare Online Photo Backup. Then, click to select the Automatically back up photos from this PC check box.
  5. To exclude specific photos or groups of photos from the online backup, follow these steps:
    1. Click Choose photos to exclude.
    2. To exclude all the photos in a folder, locate the folder of photos that you want to exclude in the left column. Then, click to clear the check box next to that folder.

      To exclude specific photos in a folder, click the folder in the left column. In the right column, click to clear the check box next to each photo that you want to exclude.
    3. Click OK, click Next, and then click Save.
Notes
  • To back up photos from all computers in your OneCare circle, you must individually enable Windows Live OneCare Online Photo Backup for each computer. You only need one subscription to Windows Live OneCare Online Photo Backup to back up the photos for all the computers in your OneCare circle.
    • A OneCare circle is a small network of computers that share the same Windows Live OneCare subscription.
  • Windows Live OneCare Online Photo Backup runs every six hours from the time that you enable the feature.
  • If you have many photos or very large photos that you want to back up, the Windows Live OneCare Online Photo Backup process may take several hours or several days to finish.
  • To find out how many photos you have backed up, how many photos remain to be backed up, or how much online storage space remains available, follow these steps:
    1. Start Windows Live OneCare.
    2. In the Backup and Restore area, click View status next to Online photo backup.
