The key piece to understand is that the firmware is the piece which makes the device compatible and which we have tested so ensure that you have the firmware which is listed. Even if you purchase or own a router on the list, you still may have to upgrade the firmware which is listed on the below sites. If you are unsure about this, please contact your router manufacturer. Devices that are not on the Xbox LIVE Compatible list or the Windows Vista-compatible list may still work well with Xbox LIVE. However, we cannot guarantee you will have an optimal experience. You may also have to perform additional configuration on the router. For example, you may need to open up specific ports. If you plan to purchase a new router, we recommend that you examine the Xbox Compatible Web site first to see which models we have tested and have approved to ensure that it works on Xbox LIVE and together with other Microsoft products.
