FIX: Error message on a system that has Windows Services for UNIX 3.5 installed: "Segmentation fault"

SYMPTOMS

On a system that has Microsoft Windows Services for UNIX 3.5 installed, the sort command in the Interix subsystem may exit unexpectedly. This problem occurs when the sort command processes certain files. When this problem occurs, you receive the following error message:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
