SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office Communicator 2007, you receive the following error message when you try to change an instant messaging (IM) conversation into a multiparty conference:
Your attempt to start a conference was unsuccessful. If you need further assistance, contact your system administrator.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because Communicator 2007 incorrectly creates a new conference with duration of zero minutes. The conference appears to have expired and cannot be started.

RESOLUTION

How to obtain the hotfix

This issue is fixed in the Communicator 2007 Hotfix Package that was released on November 6, 2007. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
