How to troubleshoot the Zune Wireless Remote v2

Expand all | Collapse all

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the Zune Wireless Remote v2 by pressing buttons on the remote, nothing happens. Or, the range of the remote may seem very limited.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. Insert the Zune device into the Zune Dock. The infrared (IR) receiver is located on the dock. If the Zune device is not in the dock, the remote cannot control the device.

Note If you have the Zune FM Transmitter connected to the Zune device, disconnect the transmitter before you insert the Zune device into the dock.
  2. Point the remote directly at the Dock. The Zune Wireless Remote uses infrared light to communicate with the dock. This requires a clear line of sight between the remote and the dock.
    • Verify that you are not blocking the IR transmitter on the top front of the remote as you hold it.
    • Verify that the receiver on the front of the dock is not blocked or covered.
    • Make sure that you are no farther than 10 meters (about 33 feet) from the dock.
  3. Avoid positioning consumer devices close to the Zune Dock or to the Zune Wireless Remote. Devices such as portable computers, printers, Smartphones, and PDAs can transmit infrared light.
  4. Close drapes or blinds on windows during daylight hours. This helps minimize ambient infrared light.
  5. Reset the wireless remote. To do this, open the Zune Wireless Remote battery tray, wait five seconds, and then close the battery tray.
  6. Replace the battery. The Zune Wireless Remote uses a CR2032 three-volt lithium battery.
