SYMPTOMS

When you use the Zune AV Output Cable v2, you cannot hear or see media that is played on the Zune device. Or, you may hear the audio but see no video, see the video but hear no audio, or hear the audio but only from one channel.

THINGS TO TRY

  1. Make sure that you connect the audio and the video connectors of the Zune AV Output Cable to the correct AV inputs on the TV or on the audio receiver. To do this, match the red, the white, and the yellow connectors on the cable to the color-coded inputs on the TV or on the audio receiver. The yellow connector transmits a composite video signal. The white and the red connectors transmit the left and the right audio channels.
Note Some TVs and some receivers include a red component video input. Make sure that you do not connect the red audio cable to the red component video input.
  2. Make sure that you connect the Zune AV Output Cable to the correct set of input connections on the TV or on the receiver. TVs or receivers frequently have more than one input source. Typically, these inputs are named "Video 1" and "Video 2." Additionally, make sure that you configure the cable to use the correct input source. For more information about how to configure the TV or the receiver or about the types of inputs, contact the manufacturer or read the documentation that was included with the device.
  3. Turn on the tv out setting on the Zune device. To do this, follow these steps.
Note This step does not apply to the Zune 4GB, Zune 8GB, or Zune 16GB because these Zune devices do not have a tv out setting.
    1. On the home screen, select settings, and then press the center of the Zune pad.
    2. Select display, and then press the center of the Zune pad.
    3. Select tv system. Press the center of the Zune pad to switch between NTSC and PAL.
Note If you have a TV that was manufactured for North America, select NTSC. Only the Zune 30GB supports PAL.
    4. Select tv out, and then press the center of the Zune pad two times.
  4. Make sure that you have fully inserted the Zune AV Output Cable connector into the headphone input on the Zune device or on the Zune Dock.
  5. If you are using your Zune device in a car’s entertainment system, turn on the tv out setting on the Zune device before you connect the Zune device to an FM transmitter/charger, if you are these accessories.
  6. Test the configuration. If you use a receiver and a TV, connect the Zune device to an input source on the TV, and then configure the TV to use that input source. If this does not resolve the issue, contact the manufacturer or read the documentation that was included with the device for more information.
