There may be inconsistencies in the Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) and Exchangeable Image File (EXIF) values for an image file in Windows Vista and in Windows XP

After you modify the metadata properties for an image file in Windows Vista or in Windows XP, there may be inconsistencies in the Extensible Metadata Platform (XMP) and Exchangeable Image File (EXIF) values for this image file.

Especially after you modify the values of the following properties for a JPEG file in Windows Explorer or in Windows Photo Gallery, values in the EXIF format for the JPEG file may be lost:

• The Keywords property
• The Title property
• The Comments property
• The Rating property

Image metadata is embedded inside an image file. This metadata provides additional information about the image, such as information about the device that was used to capture the image or about the dimensions of the image.

The Microsoft Windows Imaging Component (WIC) provides interfaces that let the user read and write this metadata for several common metadata formats. These formats include XMP, EXIF, and Png Textual Data (tEXt).

To edit the metadata in Windows Vista, open the Properties dialog box of an image file, and then click the Details tab.
