SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

You are watching Live TV in Windows Media Center on a Windows Vista-based computer.
You change the channel to a program that is being broadcast in a high-definition television (HDTV) format.

In this scenario, a green screen is displayed instead of the expected Live TV program.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

You have an Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC)-compliant tuner installed to receive over-the-air digital broadcasts from your local TV stations.
You are using a video card driver on which the hardware vendor has disabled DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) for HDTV. However, DXVA is still enabled for standard-definition television (SDTV).
You change the channel from a program that is being broadcast as SDTV to a program that is being broadcast as HDTV.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods:

Try to resize the Windows Media Center window from full-screen to windowed and then back to full-screen.
Exit and then restart Windows Media Center.
Contact your graphics card vendor for an updated driver that may work around this issue in Windows Media Center.
