SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You are using a client computer that is running Windows XP or Windows Server 2003.
  • The computer has two network drives that use the NTFS file system.
  • These two network drives reside on the same volume.
In this scenario, when you try to move some files from one network drive to another network drive, the files keep the permissions of the source folders instead of inheriting the permissions of the destination parent folders.

Note This problem occurs even if the MoveSecurityAttributes registry entry is set to zero (0) under the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
