Error message when you try to deploy a Visual Studio 2008 ClickOnce application: “The components for communicating with FrontPage Server Extensions are not installed”

When you try to deploy a Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 ClickOnce application, you may receive the following error message:Note In this error message, <WebSite> represents the actual name of the Web site that you are trying to create.

This problem occurs if you do not have the Visual Studio Web Authoring Component installed.

Note By default, the Visual Studio Web Authoring Component is not installed in Express editions of Visual Studio 2008.

To resolve this problem, install the Visual Studio Web Authoring Component by following the appropriate steps.

Visual Studio 2008 Express editions

To resolve this problem if you have Visual Studio 2008 Express edition installed, you must download and install Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition. For more information about how to download and install Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Visual Studio 2008 Professional and Standard editions

To resolve this problem if you have Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition or Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition installed, follow these steps:

1. Insert the Visual Studio 2008 installation media into the DVD drive.
2. Locate the following directory:
   DriveLetter\WCU\WebDesignerCore
   Note In this path, DriveLetter represents the actual DVD drive letter.
3. Right-click the WebDesignerCore.exe file, and then click Open.
4. Click Run.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
