Article ID: 945545 - Last Review: December 17, 2007 - Revision: 1.0 The notification sound does not play in Communicator 2007 when you change the notification sound to a .wav file that resides in the Media folderSYMPTOMSOn a Windows XP-based client computer, you change the notification sound in Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 to a .wav file that resides in the %windir%\Media folder. However, the notification sound does not play in Communicator 2007. Notes
CAUSEThis problem occurs because the full path of the .wav file in the %windir%\Media folder is not written to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\Communicator\COMMUNICATOR_<event type>\.Current\(Default) registry key. Communicator 2007 searches for .wav files only in the Communicator installation folder if no path is available in the registry. RESOLUTIONThis problem is fixed in the Communicator 2007 hotfix package that is dated December 17, 2007.

Description of the Communicator 2007 hotfix package: December 7, 2007
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, copy the .wav file from the %windir%\Media folder to any other folder on the client computer. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. MORE INFORMATIONYou can change the notification sound in Communicator 2007 to a .wav file that resides in any folder except the %windir%\Media folder. This behavior occurs because the full path is written to the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\Communicator\COMMUNICATOR_<event type>\.Current\(Default) registry key for folders other than the %windir%\Media folder. However, only the file name is written to the registry for the %windir%\Media folder. This is the default behavior in Windows XP because the %windir%\Media folder path is specified as the default media path in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\MediaPath registry key.
