Symptoms

When you install a Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) 2007 site server before December 1, 2007, the SCCM site server does not process advertisement status summary data. This data is also known as offer status summary data. In this case, status files (.svf) accumulate in the offersum.box folder that is located in the \Program Files\Microsoft Configuration Manager\inboxes folder on the SCCM site server.

Note If you upgrade from Microsoft System Management Server (SMS) 2003 to SCCM 2007, the offersum.box folder is located in the \SMS\Inboxes folder.

Additionally, the Offersum.log file contains errors that resemble the following:

Tally 00011280001F2000. New Start Time: 12/01/2007 00:00:00, New Expire Time: 12/08/2007 00:00:00 ---->: An exception was raised: Unspecified error Warn>: Could not initialize the summarizers properties.

These error messages occur every minute in the Offersum.log file.

When you install an SCCM site server after December 1, 2007, the SCCM site server cannot process any status messages. This behavior occurs because the offersum.box folder is not created successfully. This blocks the status message system. Additionally, the Statmgr.log file contains entries that resemble the following:

Waiting for SMS_INBOX_MANAGER to create the "Offer Status Summarizer" inbox for summarizer SMS_OFFER_STATUS_SUMMARIZER.

Note No other site system functions are affected by this problem. Only the offer status summarization component is affected by this problem.

Cause

This problem occurs because an incorrect date calculation is used to determine summarization intervals. The date calculation runs shortly after the Offer Status Summarizer thread of the SMS Executive Service starts.

After you apply this hotfix, the status messages that are backlogged in the offersum.box folder are processed. If you monitor the Offersum.log file, entries that resemble the following may appear for several different messages:

Invalid time for offer 'AdvertisementName' with message MessageID from client ClientName. Note The MessageID value will vary. Additionally, the number of times that the log entry is repeated for any given client will vary.

When the status summarizer component reads a status message, the status summarizer component compares the time stamp in the message to the start time of a given summary interval. When the message that is being processed falls outside the given range, the log entry is generated in the Offersum.log file. For example, a status message that is generated on December 3 and that is processed on December 5 will not appear in the Since 12:00:00AM summary. Therefore, the December 3 log entry can be ignored.

Fourteen different status summary intervals are defined. The status summary intervals resemble the Display Intervals information that is available when you view status message summaries in the SMS Administrator Console. For example, the status summary intervals resemble Since 12:00:00 AM or Since Sunday.
