INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to register Microsoft Filter Pack with Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 so that you can enable additional file types to be indexed by SharePoint Portal Server 2003.

Step 1: Install Microsoft Filter Pack

Step 2: Add the file types

After you have installed Microsoft Filter Pack on a computer that is running SharePoint Portal Server 2003, follow these steps to add file types that you want to be indexed:
1. On the SharePoint Portal Server 2003 portal site, click Site Settings.
2.On the Site Settings page, click Configure search and indexing under Search Settings and Indexed Content.
3.On the "Configure Search and Indexing" page, click Include file types in the General Content Settings and Indexing Status section.
4. For each file name extension that you want to include, follow these steps:
a. On the "Specify File Types to Include" page, click New File Type.
b. On the Add File Type page, type the file name extension in the File extension box for the file type that you want to add to the list of file types to be indexed.

Note The following list displays the file name extensions that are supported in Microsoft Filter Pack:

.Docm
.Pptx
.Pptm
.Xlsx
.Xlsm
.Xlsb
.Zip
.One
.Vdx
.Vsd
.Vss
.Vst
.Vdx
.Vsx
.Vtx
c. Click OK to save your changes.
Note To crawl documents that use the extensions that you added, you must start a full crawl of the content source.
