Error message when you configure Agent Exception Monitoring to use a remote file share in System Center Operations Manager 2007: "A file share could not be created"

Expand all | Collapse all

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Agent Exception Monitoring (AEM) configuration wizard, you receive the following error message during the last steps of the wizard:
A file share could not be created. FileShare path has a missing directory:
\\Remote_Server_Name\AEM File_Share_Name
This problem occurs in Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 when you configure Agent Exception Monitoring (AEM) to use a remote file share to store crash dump files.

CAUSE

When you configure Agent Exception Monitoring, the Management Server server tries to create a file share on the remote computer. If the account that this task is running under does not have permissions to create the file share, you can create it manually. However, if you manually create the share while the wizard is still running, you may receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, create the file share after you exit the Agent Exception Monitoring configuration wizard. Create the file share manually if the file share does not exist or if the account does not have the required permissions. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Exit the Agent Exception Monitoring configuration wizard.
  2. Create the file share manually.
  3. Verify that you can access the file share from the Management Server server.
  4. Use the Agent Exception Monitoring configuration wizard to perform the configuration.
