Display problems occur when you open a document that contains inserted Office objects in an Office for Mac program

Consider the following scenario. You create a document by using the Windows version of Microsoft Office. You insert an Office document as an object into this document. Then, you transfer the document to a Macintosh computer. You open this document in a Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac program or in a Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac program. In this scenario, you experience one of the following display issues with the inserted document:

• Lines of text of text may be missing.
• Words may overlap one another.
• The spacing between words may be greatly exaggerated.

These issues apply to the following objects:

• Microsoft Office Word documents
• Microsoft Office Excel charts
• Excel workbooks and worksheets

To work around this issue, you must open the Office object to force the object to re-render the preview image of the inserted object. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Open the document that contains the inserted Office object.
2. Locate the Office object in the document.
3. Double-click the object. This will open the object in the Office 2004 program or in the Office 2008 program that handles that type of object.
4. Make a minor change, such as adding and then deleting a space in the document.
5. Exit and then return to the Office program.

The text in the object should now appear as expected.
