FIX: Error message when the workload demand on the server is high in SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services: "Internal error: An unexpected exception occured"
Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release.

In Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services, when the workload demand on the server is high, the server stops responding. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Internal error: An unexpected exception occured.
When this issue occurs, a minidump file is generated in the SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services log folder.
This issue occurs because an error is generated when SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services processes data in a multithreaded manner. This results in a shared data structure that is incorrectly manipulated by multiple threads at the same time. Therefore, the shared data structure is corrupted, and an exception is generated.
Note The error message may be caused by other issues. We recommend that you contact Microsoft Customer Support Services to determine whether you are experiencing the problem that is described in this article.

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 hotfixes are created for specific SQL Server service packs. You must apply a SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 hotfix to an installation of SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2. By default, any hotfix that is provided in a SQL Server service pack is included in the next SQL Server service pack.
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Restart information
You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix. However, this hotfix stops and then restarts the Analysis Services service. If you configured the server for HTTP access, you must stop and then restart Internet Information Services (IIS) after the installation is complete. If you installed Analysis Services as a named instance, you must stop the SQL Server Browser service. You must do this because the Msmdredir.dll component of the SQL Server Browser service is updated during the installation of this hotfix.
Registry information
You do not have to change the registry.
Hotfix file information
The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.
