INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to use Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2.0, Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003, or Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 to distribute Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) from a shared distribution folder on a network.

Important To distribute Windows XP SP3, you must have one of the following versions of SMS installed:
  • SMS 2.0 with Service Pack 5 (SP5)
  • SMS 2003 with Service Pack 2 (SP2)
  • SMS 2003 with Service Pack 3 (SP3)
  • System Center Configuration Manager 2007
  • System Center Configuration Manager 2007 with Service Pack 1 (SP1)
If you are installing Windows XP SP3 from the Windows XP SP3 CD or if you are downloading Windows XP SP3 from the Microsoft Web site, the service pack installer file is named WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-xxx.exe.

Note In this file name, xxx represents a specific language code, such as "ENU" for English.
