SYMPTOMSWhen a user tries to connect to a shared printer in Windows Server 2008, the user receives an error message. The two scenarios in which a user experiences this problem are as follows:
CAUSEThis issue occurs if the user does not have administrative user rights or elevated user rights. A security change in Windows Server 2008 does not let non-administrative users create local printer connections. In the scenarios that are described in the "Symptoms" section, the printers are represented in Windows as local printers and as network printers. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, create the printer connection by using elevated user rights or as an administrative user.
