Article ID: 948159 - Last Review: April 17, 2008 - Revision: 2.2 Error message in Communicator 2007 if the Outlook profile file name contains non-English characters: "There was a problem connecting to Microsoft Office Outlook"SYMPTOMSIf the Outlook profile file name contains non-English
characters, you may receive the following error message in Microsoft Office
Communicator 2007: There was a problem connecting to
Microsoft Office Outlook. Your Outlook profile is not configured correctly.
Contact your system administrator with this
information. CAUSECommunicator uses MAPI to retrieve the Outlook profile file
name. MAPI returns this double-byte character set (DBCS) profile file name as an
ANSI string. Communicator treats the ANSI string as UTF8 format and converts
the string to Unicode. However, Communicator does not check locale settings and
does not call the MultiByteToWideChar function to convert the DBCS file name to a correct Unicode format. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, install the Communicator 2007 update package that is dated April 2, 2008.
