SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. In a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 environment, the hub transport rule is configured to add a disclaimer into e-mail messages. A user configures the "Out of Office Assistant" to use the Reply with Template option in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 or in Outlook 2007. The e-mail message that has the disclaimer correctly shows the disclaimer in the body of the message, and the Out-of-Office (OOF) template becomes an attachment. In this scenario, those who use external e-mail may be unable to read the attached OOF template. Therefore, the information that is contained in the OOF attachment is not available.

CAUSE

The problems only occurs when the message class is the following class:
IPM.Note.Rules.OofTemplate.Microsoft
Note This is the message class for Outlook Form templates (.oft files) when you use the Outlook "Out of Office Assistant."

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install Update Rollup 2 for Exchange 2007 Service Pack 1 on the Exchange server. For more information about Update Rollup 2 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1, see the following Exchange Help topic:
Description of Update Rollup 2 for Exchange Server 2007 Service Pack 1 (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=152558)

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, create the OOF file as a regular e-mail message, and then save the OOF file. In this case, the OOF file has the following e-mail message class:
IPM.Note
Select this file when you create an OOF rule.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
