MORE INFORMATION

When you install the component servers of Groove Server 2007, be aware of the following restrictions.

Groove Relay Server 2007

The following software installations interfere with the operation of a server that is running Groove Relay Server 2007:
  • Groove Manager Server 2007
  • Groove Data Bridge Server 2007
  • Microsoft Office Groove 2007 or any earlier version of Groove client software
  • Other Microsoft Office applications
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 or other Office servers
  • Online backup utilities and services that may try to back up files that are open for reading or for writing in the Groove Relay Server 2007 installation or data folders
  • Internet Information Services (IIS) or other Web servers that use default HTTP ports

Note The Groove Relay service listens on ports 80 and 443. By default, Web servers, such as IIS and Apache, use these same ports. Do not install these Web servers on the computer that you use for Groove Relay Server 2007.
Make sure that these software installations are not installed on the computer that you use for Groove Relay Server 2007.

Additionally, many network services decrease Groove Relay Server 2007 performance. Avoid starting the following services:
  • The Active Directory directory service

Note Groove Relay Server 2007 uses Groove Manager services instead of Active Directory services. The presence of Active Directory services is an unnecessary drain on Groove Relay Server 2007 performance.
  • Internet Mail Service together with a virtual SMTP server
  • Content Indexing
  • Transaction service
  • Message Queue service
  • Domain Name service
  • Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) service
  • WINS service
Make sure that these services are not running on the computer that you use for Groove Relay Server 2007.

Groove Manager Server 2007

To install Groove Manager Server 2007, start with a clean, stand-alone server that is running Windows Server 2003. Install IIS, and then install Groove Manager Server 2007. Any other software may impede server performance.

Additionally, the following software installations interfere with the basic operation of Groove Manager Server 2007:
  • Groove 2007 or any earlier version of Groove client software
  • Groove Relay Server 2007
  • Groove Audit Server
  • Microsoft SQL Server

Groove Data Bridge Server 2007

To install Groove Data Bridge Server 2007, start with a Windows Server 2003-based server that has never had Groove client software installed. Groove 2007 or any earlier version of Groove client software interferes with the basic operation of Groove Data Bridge Server 2007.

Additionally, any other software may impede server performance.
