You receive an Event ID 6875 error message when you publish a page in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 or in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

SYMPTOMS

When you publish a page in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 or in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, you receive an error message that resembles the following in the Application log in Event Viewer:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Windows SharePoint Services 3
Event Category: General
Event ID: 6875
Description:
Error loading and running event receiver
Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.Internal.ScheduledItemEventReceiver in
Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing, Version=12.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,
PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c. Additional information is below.

Invalid List Item. The List Item provided is not compatible with a Scheduled Item.
This message is an informational message. You do not experience any loss of functionality in SharePoint Server 2007 or in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. You can safely ignore this message.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You use the Publishing Portal template to create a site collection.
  • You create a page when major versioning is turned on.

RESOLUTION

This problem was first fixed in a hotfix that is now contained in 2007 Microsoft Office servers Service Pack 2 (SP2). If you install the latest Microsoft Office Servers service pack, you do not have to install the hotfix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue in Windows SharePoint Services, follow these steps:
  1. Open the SharePoint Central Administration Web page.
  2. Click Operations, and then click Diagnostic logging.
  3. In the Select a category box, click General under Event Throttling.
  4. In the Least critical event to report to the event log box, click None.
  5. In the Least critical event to report to the trace log box, click Verbose.
  6. Click OK.

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Create a site collection.
  2. Click Site Actions, and then click Manage Content and Structure.
  3. Click Pages, and then click Edit Properties.
  4. Click Versioning settings.
  5. Under Content Approval, click No.
  6. Under Document Version History, click Create major versions, and then click OK.
  7. Click Site Action, and then click Create Page.
  8. Under Page Title and Description, type a title, and then click Create.
