Description of the Microsoft server applications that are supported on Windows Server 2008

This article describes the Microsoft server applications that are supported on Windows Server 2008.

Windows Server 2008 is the next generation of the Windows Server operating system. Windows Server 2008 provides significant improvements over Windows Server 2003. Important improvements include the following:

• Networking
• Advanced security features
• Remote application access
• Centralized server role management
• Performance and reliability monitoring tools
• Failover clustering
• Deployment
• File system

Because of these improvements to the base operating system, backward compatibility of all applications is not guaranteed.
