Error message when you try to watch TV after you install Windows Vista SP1 on a Windows Vista Media Center computer that uses a digital cable tuner: “Tuners not configured”

SYMPTOMS

You install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) on a Windows Vista Media Center computer that uses a digital cable tuner card. Then, the following error message occurs when you try to watch TV:
Tuners not configured

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the Windows Vista SP1 setup starts certain Media Center services. However, the underlying UPnP and HTTP services fail in unpredictable ways.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, restart the Windows Vista Media Center computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem only occurs after the initial Windows Vista SP1 installation. If you see the problem that is described in the "Symptoms" section, the problem does not occur after you restart the computer.

This problem only occurs on a Windows Vista Media Center computer that uses a digital cable tuner card.
