Error message when you use Outlook 2007 to send a Word 2003 document that you have opened in Word 2007: "Word could not load the e-mail envelope"

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a Word 2003 document that contains mail recipient information and attachments.
  • You have installed Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 and Office Word 2007 on your computer.
  • You open the Word 2003 document in Word 2007.
In this scenario, when you click Send to Mail Recipient, you receive the following error message:
Word could not load the e-mail envelope. This could be caused by a network connection problem or a problem with your Office installation.
Additionally, if you click Send to Mail Recipient again, the Send to Mail Recipient view appears. However, the attachments and mail recipient information are lost.

RESOLUTION

This issue is fixed in the Outlook 2007 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package that was released on January 28, 2008. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
