On This PageSUMMARYThis article describes the Microsoft Office Word 2003 issue that is fixed in the hotfix package that is dated February 11, 2008. This article describes the following items about the hotfix package:
INTRODUCTIONIssue that the hotfix package fixesThis hotfix fixes the following issue that was not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:You try to protect a document in Word 2003 by using the Protect Document tool. You set the Editing Restrictions feature to No changes (Read only). Additionally, you use the Exceptions feature to designate parts of the document that anyone can freely edit. After you protect the document, you click Find Next Region I Can Edit to find the next part of the document that can be edited. When you click Find Next Region I Can Edit until you reach the end of the document and then accept the Word has finished searching the document prompt, the focus of Word 2003 returns to the Protect Document task pane instead of to the document. The next time that you click Find Next Region I Can Edit, the part of the document that you can edit will be selected. However, you may be unable to type. This behavior occurs because the focus of Word 2003 is still on the Protect Document task pane. To continue typing, manually move the focus off the Protect Document task pane.
