Symptoms

You uninstall an update rollup or an interim update on a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Edge server. Then, PowerShell commands that are used for the Edge server role do not work as expected. For example, you may receive the following error message when you run the Get-AttachmentfilterListConfig cmdlet:
The term 'Get-AttachmentfilterListConfig' is not recognized as a cmdlet, function, operable program, or script file. Verify the term and try again.

Cause

This problem occurs because the uninstallation process incorrectly resets the CustomPSSnapInType registry entry.

Let me fix it myself

To work around this problem yourself, follow these steps:
  1. On the Exchange 2007 Edge server, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  2. Locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PowerShell\1\PowerShellSnapIns\Microsoft.Exchange.Management.Powershell.Admin
  3. Right-click the CustomPSSnapInType registry entry, and then click Modify.
  4. Examine the Value data box. If the value is Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.AdminPSSnapIn, change it to the following entry, and then click OK:
    Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.EdgePSSnapIn
  5. Exit Registry Editor.

Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
