INTRODUCTION

This article describes a scenario in which Microsoft Windows Messenger 5.1 software and Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 may not communicate with one another.

MORE INFORMATION

Windows Messenger 5.1 and Communicator 2007 may not communicate with one another in the following scenario:
  • Windows Messenger 5.1 is logged on to Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
  • Communicator 2007 is logged on to Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007.
Note This scenario is not a tested scenario, and it is not supported.

In this scenario, certain functionality may work. However, there is no guarantee. Therefore, this scenario is not supported.

Additionally, in a mixed environment that uses Microsoft Office Live Communications Server 2005 and Communications Server 2007, Communications Server 2007 Access Edge servers are required for external access. These Access Edge servers do not support Microsoft Office Communicator Mobile 1.0 or Windows Messenger 5.1. Therefore, these clients cannot log on to Live Communications Server 2005 SP1.

In other words, neither Communicator Mobile 1.0 nor Windows Messenger 5.1 can be used in a mixed environment that uses Live Communications Server 2005 and Communications Server 2007.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Enterprise Edition
  • Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Standard Edition
