The Peoplepicker function may not be fully implemented when you use Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 1 together with Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration (HMC) 4.0

When you use Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 1 together with Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration (HMC) 4.0, the Peoplepicker function may not be fully implemented.
A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Description of the update for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration 4.0 for Windows SharePoint Services provisioning components
Hotfix file information
The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.
Before you apply this hotfix, you must contact Microsoft Customer Support Services to obtain hotfix 949630. To install the two hotfixes, you must follow these steps to upgrade the Hosted SharePoint Services to include the multi-tenant support in the PeoplePicker Web server control in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1).
Stop the Microsoft Provisioning System (MPS) engine to prevent any more requests from being submitted on the MPS engine server. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, and then click Run.
Copy and then paste the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:
%windir%\system32\com\comexp.msc
In the Component Services window, expand Component Services, expand Computers, expand My Computer, and then expand COM+ Applications.
Right-click Provisioning Engine, click Disable, right-click Provisioning Engine, and then click Shut down.
Uninstall the existing components. To do this, follow these steps:
On the MPS engine server, open the MPS Deployment Tool.
Expand SharePoint Services Hosting.
Right-click Hosted SharePoint, and then click Uninstall.
Right-click Managed SharePoint, and then click Uninstall.
Right-click SharePoint Provider, and then click Uninstall.
Expand MPS Web Service, and then expand Hosted SharePoint Web Service.
Right-click each server that is listed under Hosted SharePoint Web Service, and then click Uninstall.
Expand Managed SharePoint Web Service.
Right-click each server that is listed under Managed SharePoint Web Service, and then click Uninstall.
Click Start Deployment.
Copy the new files to the MSIShare folder. To do this, follow these steps:
Click File in the MPS Deployment Tool, and then click File Locations to find the path of the MSIShare folder for the installer files.
Locate the MSIShare folder, and then rename the following files to preserve the original version of Hosted SharePoint Services:

ManagedSharePoint2007NS.msi
SharePointProvider.msi
WindowsSharePointServicesWebService.msi
HostedSharePoint2007WS.msi
ManagedSharePoint2007WS.msi
Copy the files that are extracted from the hotfix package for 949629 into the MSIShare folder.
Copy the files that are extracted from the hotfix package for 949630 into the MSIShare folder. When you do this, you will overwrite the following files in the MSIShare folder:
SharePointProvider.msi
WindowsSharePointServicesWebService.msi
Install the new components. To do this, follow these steps:
In the MPS Deployment Tool, right-click SharePoint Services Hosting, and then click Install all in this group.
Right-click MPS Web Service, and then click Install all in this group.
Click Start Deployment.
Initialize the Windows SharePoint Services components. To do this, follow these steps:
In the MPS Deployment Tool, expand SharePoint Services Hosting.
Right-click Initialize Hosted SharePoint, click Execute, and then click Initialize Hosted SharePoint.
Right-click SharePoint Initialize Namespace Security, click Execute, and then click SharePoint Initialize Namespace Security.
Click Start Deployment.
Install Web services for the SharePoint service. To do this, follow these steps:
In the MPS Deployment Tool, expand MPS Web Services.
Expand Hosted SharePoint Web Service.
Right-click each server that is listed under Hosted SharePoint Web Service, and then click Install.
Expand Managed SharePoint Web Service.
Right-click each server that is listed under Managed SharePoint Web Service, and then click Install.
Click Start Deployment.
Reinstall the Windows SharePoint Services Admin Web service. To do this, follow these steps:
Log on to the Windows SharePoint Services server.
Run the WindowsSharePointServicesWebService.msi file from the MSIShare folder.
Note Accept all default settings to install the Windows SharePoint Services Admin Web service.
Update the Web applications that are controlled by SharePoint Central Administration. To do this, follow these steps:
On the MPS engine server, open the ModifyServiceAccountDirectoryPaths.xml file that is located in the following folder:
In the preferredDomainController node, specify the domain controller that you use.
In the target node, specify the SharePoint Central Administration Web site that you want to update.
In the serviceAccountDirectoryPaths node, specify the distinguishedName of the Container in which you created the service accounts. For example, the distinguishedName resembles the following:
CN=Users,DC=Fabrikam,DC=Com
Save the file, and then type the following command at the command prompt:
