SYMPTOMS

When you track a received e-mail message or when you send a tracked e-mail message in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, you receive the following error message:
An error occurred promoting this item to Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • The e-mail message contains an attachment.
  • The name of the attachment contains an ampersand (&) character.

RESOLUTION

This problem is fixed in the latest cumulative update rollup for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
