You experience poor playback performance and poor recording performance when you record broadcast TV on a Windows Vista SP1-based computer

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
You are running a Windows Vista-based computer.
You install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1).
You use one of the following TV tuner cards on this computer:
ATI Theater 550
ATI Theater 600
ATI Theater 650
When you record broadcast TV in Windows Media Center in this scenario, you experience the following issues:
Intermittent frame skipping
Intermittent audio
Poor playback performance and poor recording performance

CAUSE

These issues occur because of the presence of a particular version of the Avivo codec software. This version of the Avivo codec software is installed when you install the ATI Catalyst device driver.

RESOLUTION

To resolve these issues, follow these steps:
1.Install the latest ATI Catalyst driver. To do this, visit the following AMD Web site:
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/theater550-vista32 (http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista32/theater550-vista32)
2.Uninstall the Avivo codec software. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Click Startthe Start button, type programs in the Start Search box, and then click Programs and Features in the Programs list.
b. Select the Avivo codec software from the list of programs, and then click Uninstall.
c. Follow the instructions to uninstall the Avivo codec software.
3.If steps 1 and 2 do not resolve the issue that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section, contact AMD support for additional troubleshooting options. To do this, visit the following AMD Web site:
