The Netset03.exe tool does not work for non-English language versions of Windows Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

When you use an answer file to automatically deploy Windows Server 2003, you experience the problem that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
920293 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920293/ ) You cannot configure a network adapter that resides on a virtual bus to use a static IP address in an automated deployment of Windows Server 2003
You use the Netset03.exe tool that is provided by hotfix 920293 or by Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) to resolve this problem.

In this scenario, the Netset03.exe tool works for the English language versions of Windows Server 2003. However, this tool does not work for non-English language versions of Windows Server 2003.

CAUSE

The Netset03.exe tool that is provided by hotfix 920293 performs a hard-coded string comparison. The Netset03.exe tool assumes that the strings that are compared are English language strings.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.
