SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows 7, you are playing an .mpg, .wmv, or .avi file-format movie in Windows Media Center. When you press Alt + Tab to switch away from Windows Media Center or Alt + Enter to switch between maximized and windows views, you experience one of the following symptoms:

Symptom 1

You receive an error message that states that Windows Media Center has stopped working.

Symptom 2

Windows Media Center displays a black screen.

Symptom 3

The playback starts from the beginning.

Symptom 4

You receive the following error message:
Cannot Play Video
Additionally, an error message that resembles the following is logged in the Application log:
Log Name: Application
Source: Application Error
Date: Date
Event ID: 1000
Task Category: (100)
Level: Error

Computer: ComputerName

Description: Faulting application ehshell.exe, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp TimeStamp, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp TimeStamp, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0003b15f, process id ProcessID, application start time TimeStamp.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use the mouse to minimize Windows Media Center or switch Windows Media Center out of full-screen mode before you press Alt + Tab to switch to another application.
